Dr. Joseph Mwiti Marangu (Profile- https://www.cmtevents.com/speakerone.aspx?ev=251016&spid=1063843& ), Director of the Institute of Cement & Concrete (ICC) at Meru University of Science & Technology (MUST) and Head of LC3 TRC Africa, will give a keynote address at the 14th Africa CemenTrade Summit in Accra, Ghana on October 29-30, 2025, organized by the Centre for Management Technology. His keynote, “Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3): Unlocking New Potentials for the Construction Industry,” centers on pioneering low-carbon cement solutions that blend affordability and sustainability, driving Africa’s construction sector toward greener horizons.

Event Overview

The 14th Africa CemenTrade Summit (Event Website-https://www.cmtevents.com/eventschedule.aspx?ev=251016& ) convenes visionaries, decision-makers and innovators in Accra to discuss new technologies and business strategies for cement & concrete. Key themes include market outlook, low-carbon alternatives, alternative fuels, supply chain resilience and financing options for producers thus reflecting the continent’s evolving infrastructure demands and climate action commitments.

LC3 Cement Innovation

Dr. Mwiti’s pioneering research work on LC3, a blend of locally sourced clay & limestone champions a future where Africa’s booming construction demands are met sustainably. The composition of LC3 comprises of 50% clinker, 30% calcined clay, 15% limestone & 5% gypsum. This innovation reduces the carbon footprint traditionally linked with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and drives lower costs, making housing and infrastructure development more accessible across Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. Under his stewardship, MUST has become a beacon for advancing LC3 technology, reinforcing the continent’s journey toward green building solutions.

Impact and Leadership

As Director of ICC & Head of LC3-TRC AFRICA, Dr. Marangu has made MUST a continental hub for green cement technologies and sustainable construction solutions. His commitment has led to wide adoption of LC3 technology across Sub-Saharan African, positioning the continent at the forefront of climate-friendly construction innovation.
