Mr peter Dickson Quality Assurance and Process Manager at CBI Ghana Ltd

It was a pleasure to host Mr. Peter Dickson, a Quality Assurance and Process Manager at CBI Ghana Ltd. when he visited the Institute of Cement and Concrete (ICC) at Meru University of Science and Technology. In his discussion, Mr. Dickson emphasized on ensuring quality and standardization in the production of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) which involves several key processes.

He emphasized that regular testing of the cement’s physical properties, such as strength and setting time, is conducted using standard methods similar to those for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Furthermore, adherence to established standards and guidelines, help maintain compliance with industry standards. Continuous training for production staff ensures they are updated on best practices, contributing to the overall reliability of LC3 as a sustainable building material. The discussions centered on promoting LC3 Cement across Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting its potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% compared to the Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC). This reduction is crucial as the world grapples with climate change and rising global temperatures.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, ICC Director Dr. Mwiti Joseph, and Mr. Andrew Nyabuto, the ICC coordinator

The integration of calcined clay and limestone enhances the performance of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) while providing a cost-effective solution that requires minimal adjustments to existing production facilities. This adaptability makes LC3 scalable for local industries facing rising housing demands and striving for eco-friendly practices.

The establishment of LC3 TRC Africa fosters innovation and knowledge sharing among industry professionals, enhancing local skills in sustainable building techniques. Collaborating with global partners like the Indian Institute of Technology and EPFL, the center ensures high-quality support for stakeholders, positioning LC3 to revolutionize construction in Sub-Saharan Africa while addressing housing shortages and promoting economic development.
